Ready & Waiting To Assist
First Fix involves the initial phase of construction, where the foundational and structural elements are installed. This stage includes:
- Building the structure’s framework, including walls, floors, and roofs.
- Installing basic plumbing, such as water and waste pipes.
- Running electrical wiring and cables through walls and floors.
- Fitting door frames, window frames, and staircases. First Fix is primarily concerned with the components that will be hidden once the building is finished. It focuses on creating the essential skeleton and infrastructure of the building.
Second Fix occurs after the main structure is complete and plastering is done. This stage involves the installation of final fixtures and fittings that are visible and used by the building’s occupants. It includes:
- Hanging doors and fitting architraves and skirting boards.
- Installing kitchen units, bathroom fixtures, and built-in furniture.
- Connecting electrical outlets, light switches, and appliances.
- Fitting radiators and final plumbing fixtures, such as taps and showerheads. Second Fix focuses on the finishing touches that make the building functional and aesthetically pleasing. It is the final step before the building is ready for occupancy.
Together, First and Second Fix ensure that a building is both structurally sound and ready for use, combining hidden infrastructure with visible finishes.
